As the face of the Pokemon franchise, Pikachu has had its fair share of appearances on a number of different stages. Most of all, the electric mouse has been a regular at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for two decades running, and with the 2020 parade to kick off this year a bit differently than usual, Pikachu will still make an appearance to celebrate the annual tradition. The Pokemon Company detailed that Pikachu will once again be part of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade for 2020, making his 20th consecutive appearance as part of the annual parade in New York City. Notably, the parade this year--which usually marches along a 2.5 mile stretch within the streets of New York--is taking a bit of a different form due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

For this year's celebration, the parade will instead only take place outside of the Macy's flagship store in front of Herald Square in New York City, reduce the number of participants and observers, enforce social distancing and mask-wearing, and feature more pre-recorded segments. The balloons that mark the parade will also be operated by special vehicles instead of usually having dozens of handlers to march the balloons down the streets of NYC.

However, aside from its altered format this year, the show will still go on with special performances and its iconic floats, with Pikachu in particular to play a role in the celebration. Specifically, The Pokemon Company detailed that this year's parade will feature "a special troupe of dancing Pikachu" and teasing that viewers should "tune in to find out why they're making a special appearance this year."

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26, 2020) on NBC and Telemundo from 9am-12pm in all time zones.
