Plague Inc. Devs Let You Stop the Outbreak in Upcoming Mode
Alongside the upcoming mode, Plague Inc. creators Ndemic Creations donated $250k to CEPI and WHO to help with COVID-19 research.
Ndemic Creations is the team behind the popular game Plague Inc. The original game lets players create their own disease that they would then release on the world, hoping to end humanity. Today, the team announced a few important updates they’re making in light of the ongoing worldwide pandemic. Not only did they donate a quarter of a million dollars to CEPI and WHO, but they’re also hard at work on a new mode that lets players save the world instead of destroying it.
Everyone is impacted by COVID-19. On behalf of all Plague Inc. players, we have just donated a quarter of a million dollars to @CEPIvaccines and @WHO to help fight it.https://t.co/kAZtjwn89b pic.twitter.com/DinQpvRqCk

Plague Inc. has been incredibly popular ever since its release back in 2012. What started as a mobile release, has quickly been ported to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game has even been adapted to the analog world with its 2017 board game. Not only is Plague Inc. a fun game, but it also serves as a great learning tool that brings more awareness to how diseases spread.
In fact, the team has spoken at WHO conferences before, so it makes sense for the two organizations to work together. That said, it’s commendable for Ndemic to donate such a large sum to CEPI and WHO. While arranging the donation, the team was asked if they could develop something to let players stop an outbreak. Thus, they’ve fast-tracked the new game mode mentioned previously. While we don’t have a launch date yet, Ndemic should have the free update available in the relatively near future. Until then, be sure to watch this space for updates.
Plague Inc. is available now on iOS and Android. Plague Inc.: Evolved is out now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you’re so inclined, Plague Inc.: The Board Game is also out now.
