PlanetSide and Legends of Norrath Servers are Shutting Down

June 17, 2016

Daybreak Game Company announced today that it is shutting down the servers of two of its older games, PlanetSide and Legends of Norrath.

PlanetSide was one of Daybreak Game Company, formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment, eralier hit games, and the servers have been running since May 20, 2003.  Online service for PlanetSide will shut down on July 1 at 4pm PT.

Legends of Norrath is a popular trading card game set in the EverQuest universe that originally launched on September 5, 2007.  Daybreak Game Company stated that the game has not been in “active development” for some time, and that it is in the company’s interests to close the servers.  The servers for Legends of Norrath will shut down on Wednesday, August 17 at 12pm PT.

It is always sad to see old online games get shut down, but it is good to know that the PlanetSide series will live on in PlanetSide 2 which is currently available on PC and PS4.  EverQuest fans aren’t so lucky however, as EverQuest Next was recently cancelled.
