While the Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare third person shooter series was always pretty fun and interesting, it has been dormant since 2016. That being said, the series seems poised to make a return soon according to recent leaks online and a report from Eurogamer. Codenamed Picnic, EA and PopCap Games seem to be in the alpha stages of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 3.

This past week, EA sent out "confidential" emails inviting players to partake in the Alpha Test for this project. Of course, the internet being the internet, several users decided to leak these invites on Reddit. The fact that so many people posted about the email and that EA told investors a new Plants vs. Zombies "experience" was coming earlier this year already made the project's existence believable, but Eurogamer was able to acquire one of these invites themselves to cement that the project was, in fact, real.

According to Eurogamer, the email reads "You are invited to participate in the new PvZ shooter (codename Picnic) playtest on Xbox One or PS4. Made by the team that created PvZ Garden Warfare, the Picnic Closed Alpha will give players a first glimpse into the new game - you don't want to miss out! Players from all experience levels and backgrounds are encouraged to join. Please note that the playtest will only be available in English." The tests are reportedly taking place during the first three days of August, suggesting that the game is at a stage of development where its publisher more open to player-focused alpha testing.

While the existence of this game is all but officially confirmed to the general public by EA, you may still want to take it with a grain of salt in case this title turns out to be something other than Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 3. Once EA does unveil whatever this project is, DualShockers let you know.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 3 is reportedly in development for PS4 and Xbox One. The series is set to return to mobile platforms soon as well, as Plants vs. Zombies 3 was announced by EA last week.
