On January 31st, Sony crossed a major milestone shipping it’s 150th million unit. They’ve always talked about a ten year plan with the system, but next month will be year eleven in Japan. It has also been reported that software sales have passed over 1.5 billion sold, making the PlayStation 2 one of the most successful consoles to date. It’s always fun to get the NPD numbers and still see the PS2 on the list; even though the console is supported less and less, you cannot argue with what the system still offers in terms of amazing quantity and quality of games. The key word here is “shipped” but I have to imagine retailers are being careful with how many PlayStation 2 consoles they are keeping on their shelves.
