It's been barely a year since the PlayStation 5 was launched, and many are still waiting to get their hands on the console. The stock situation has somewhat improved in some countries, and while there are frequent restocks, they still get depleted in a matter of minutes.

Scalpers have made the situation even worse, with many using bots to get the console before others. The shortage of chips isn't helping Sony's case either, as it is not able to manufacture more PS5 units to meet the increasing demand.

PlayStation 6 Reportedly In Development According To Job Listing

According to Twitter user

">Zuby_Tech, Sony is reportedly working on the PlayStation 6. This report comes via a job listing on the PlayStation website for a Ph.D. Intern for the Research and Development wing on PlayStation.

The job listing states that the candidate's responsibilities include "contributing to identifying and developing the technology portfolio of future PlayStation platforms." The inclusion of "future PlayStation platforms" hints towards the fact that Sony might have already started its work on the next PlayStation console.

While this might be surprising for many fans, with many even angry over the fact that Sony is working on a new console without improving the stock situation, it should be noted that this isn't something unusual. Past trends have revealed Sony does start working on a new console within two years of the launch of a new console.

The PlayStation 3 was launched back in 2006, and the PlayStation 4's development started in 2008. Likewise, the PS4 was released in 2013, and the development of PS5 started in 2015 as per estimates. If the PS6 is indeed in development, it still doesn't state anything about the launch of the next console. Development and research usually take several years, so it is safe to say we are not seeing the PS6 anytime soon, and it will probably launch towards the latter half of the decade if we go by history.
