A recent LinkedIn job listing has been discovered from the official PlayStation team as they search for an HR Mergers and Acquisitions Director.

After discovering the new job advertisement by PlayStation, many have begun to speculate that this role could be pointing towards the company looking to acquire further studios.

The job listing in question states that PlayStation are searching for someone who will "work as a closely with the Corporate Development and Finance Teams (Mergers & Acquisitions), HR Business Partners, Employment Law Team, and cross-functional HR teams to lead a wide variety of operational projects, processes, systems, and cases as a part of the People integration process."

This job listing comes after the rumour that PlayStation may have recently acquired Housemarque, the developers behind the hit PlayStation 5 title, Returnal.

During a recent interview, the head of Diorama Studio discussed working on Returnal with Housemarque, but stated that he couldn't discuss too many details due to an NDA. He went on to state "even more now that Housemarque is under Sony's umbrella". Many believe that this means the developers behind the hugely successful Returnal, have been acquired by PlayStation.

PlayStation may also be looking to acquire further studios following the news that Xbox finalized their $7.5 billion deal to acquire ZeniMax Media, which is the parent company of the massively popular Bethesda.

One user on Reddit even pointed out that the last time a Director's position was opened up for PlayStation, it was followed by an announcement that PlayStation Mobile was launching a new initiative to bring their famous franchise to mobile users.

Could an announcement follow from this recent job listing? Or could this be the beginning of PlayStation's attempt at purchasing new studios and competing with the recent Xbox and Bethesda acquisition.

Even though PlayStation are actively searching for a Mergers and Acquistions Director, it may not led to any big acquistions just yet. As much as we'd like to see PlayStation compete with the Bethesda purchase, only time will tell. Take this information with a grain of salt until official announcements are made by PlayStation themselves.
