PlayStation Announces State of Play, A New Direct-Style Video Presentation that Debuts Monday
State of Play looks to be Sony's newest way to deliver video game news with the first episode arriving Monday afternoon.
As of next week, Sony will now be joining both Microsoft and Nintendo when it comes to offering its own video presentation related to upcoming releases.
This morning, Sony officially announced State of Play which will be a new ongoing video presentation series that details PlayStation products. Much like Nintendo’s Direct videos or Microsoft’s Inside Xbox, State of Play looks to be a new avenue for Sony to speak directly to consumers about what it has in the pipeline. Best of all, the wait for this first episode won’t be long as it is set to debut on Monday, March 25 at 2:00pm PST/5:00pm EST.
As for what Sony will be unveiling in this episode? Well, details are still pretty broad at the moment. According to the PlayStation Blog, this first episode will “showcase upcoming PS4 and PS VR software, including new trailers, new game announcements and new gameplay footage.” It’s not a lot to go off of, but there are a few educated guesses as to what I think might show up.
For starters, with MLB The Show 19 releasing next week and Days Gone next month, we’re likely to hear a bit about both of those upcoming titles. And while I wouldn’t get my hopes up for release dates on games like Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, or Ghost of Tsushima just yet, one under the radar first-party game that I think we could see a release date for is Concrete Genie, which is set to release by June of this year.
Sony says that State of Play will be an ongoing series that it continues throughout the rest of this year, so it seems like we’re set to receive a lot of these in the coming months. As for what will be announced next Monday, we’ll be tuning into the stream and will have all the latest news for you here at DualShockers as it breaks.
