2016 is already going to be a big year for gaming, but in particular it also marks the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon series, and in celebration of the iconic Nintendo franchise, the series is getting a fitting tribute to kick off its milestone year with a spot at the biggest broadcast event in the US.The Pokemon Company announced that the company will be celebrating the release of Pokemon Red and Blue for the series' 20th anniversary, and alongside the reveal of a New Nintendo 3DS Bundle with the original two titles, the company will also be starting the year off with a big TV spot at the upcoming Super Bowl 50: an especially prime piece of broadcast real-estate, as 30 second spots during the event can cost upwards of $5 million. In addition to the spot, the company also launched a webpage titled "Pokemon 20," which offered up tons of information on the upcoming celebrations, events, merchandise, and more to be released this year for the 20th anniversary.Specifically, the website detailed that along with the release of the original titles on the Nintendo 3DS eShop and a New Nintendo 3DS bundle, the celebrations for 2016 will also include monthly distributions of event Pokemon, including Mew, Arceus, and other rare/legendary creatures.Along with the exciting game-related celebrations, The Pokemon Company will also provide a new expansion to the game's popular trading card game, new digital releases of the numerous animated Pokemon films on iTunes, Amazon, and other digital platforms, new merchandise on the company's "Pokemon Center" website, and also teased the upcoming releases of several new games for this year, such as Pokken Tournament on Wii U and the upcoming mobile title Pokemon GO.While plenty of new merchandise, goods, and games galore will be release by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company in 2016, the company is also encouraging fans to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary on their own through social media, by sharing their favorite memories, photos, and more on social media with the hashtag "#Pokemon20" to join in the fun.
