Only a handful of times each year do The Pokemon Company release a brand new Pokemon Trading Card Game set.

So far this year, we've received Battle Styles and Shining Fates and now, the third set of the year has just dropped - Chilling Reign.

The set is based on the second piece of Pokemon Sword and Shield's DLC, Crown Tundra and features some of the Pokemon that made their debut in that set, including the Galarian Bird Trio.

As I like to do, I've gathered up the best (in my opinion) and most expensive Chilling Reign cards.

Chilling Reign Best Cards

So, when this set was revealed, I wasn't sure what to expect, however, The Pokemon Company has come through as there are so many good looking cards.

Usually I narrow it down to my top five, however, I couldn't do that this time, so here's my ten best Chilling Reign cards.

10. Shadow Rider Calyrex Alternate Art

Expect to see a lot of Alternate Art cards on this list as the set is full of them and a lot of them look incredible.

The first to make the cut is Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX. Riding atop the ghostly Spectrier, Calyrex looks ominous as it glides over the rooftops.

9. Shiny Electrode Secret Rare

For such a simple change, Shiny Electrode just looks cool. There's nothing more to this card, other than the fact that I like blue Electrode a lot.

8. Galarian Zapdos V

I'm going to start by saying I don't love the Galarian Birds, however, I'm then going to contradict myself by saying A LOT of the best cards in this set are related to these Pokemon, the first of which is this Galarian Zapdos V card.

The colours pop and it's just a really nice card.

7. Avery

While I might not love the Galarian Birds, I'm a big fan of full art Trainer cards.

Avery is a central character in the Sword and Shield DLC and they've got a card to match their influence in the games.

6. Shadow Rider Calyrex V Alternate Art

Another alternate art entry to this list for Shadow Rider Calyrex, this time in V form.

The card is even more atmospheric than the first with the duo in an eerie frozen forest.

5. Karen's Conviction

The second (and final) Trainer card to make the list is Karen's Conviction.

The vibrant range of colours and the contrast between the orange and blue really make it stand out.

4. Tornadus V Alternate Art

Tornadus, the wind Pokemon from the Forces of Nature trio, is causing havoc in this alternate art card.

The likes of Scorbunny, Rockruff and Qwilfish are sent flying with Tornadus' windy wrath.

3. Blaziken VMAX Alternate Art

This card is on here for its really unique art style.

Blaziken looks like it's almost been spray-painted onto the card with Sobble, Drizzile and Intelleon all vibing with a sleeping Zangoose in the background

2. Galarian Zapdos V Alternate Art

This card definitely gives of Loony Tunes Road Runner vibes, with Galarian Zapdos running through the valleys then up the side of a very steep cliff.

Meep Meep.

1. Galarian Moltres V Alternate Art

This could quite possibly be one of the coolest cards of all time.

Galarian Moltres loses its Fire-typing in exchange for a new Dark-typing and this card exemplifies that pefectly.

Although it still has flames, this card really shows off its darkness with a great illustration and art style.

Most Expensive Cards

While the set is brand new, a few cards are already selling for a pretty hefty price on eBay. As its so early on though, the prices and list is likely to change so check back regularly as we update it.

For now, these are the most expensive cards in the set:

5. Galarian Rapidash V Alternate Art

One of the many beautiful alternate art cards that missed out on my "best" list, Galarian Rapidash V is a hit with the fans.

So far, the card has had an offer accepted somewhere in the region of £100+ ($141).

5. Shiny Snorlax Secret Rare

Secret rare cards are always going to be expensive, especially when they feature a Pokemon as popular as Snorlax.

This card, like Galarian Rapidash, has also had an offer accepted for upwards of £100.

4. Galarian Zapdos Alternate Art

Now we're looking at one of my favourite alternate art cards with Galarian Zapdos running up a cliff.

This card started on eBay at £145 ($204) and had an offer accepted around that price.

3. Blaziken Alternate Art

Another great looking alternate art card, this time with Blaziken.

The card started on eBay for £150 ($212) and had an offer accepted for a price around there.

2. Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX Alternate Art

A cool card with a hefty price tag.

The most expensive version of this card has sold for around £175 ($247)

1. Galarian Moltres Alternate Art

You guessed it, yet another alternate art makes the most expensive list and it's definitely one of the better ones.

So far, a Galarian Moltres alternate art card has sold for £200 ($282) on eBay, making it my favourite and the most expensive card in the set.

And there you have it, the most expensive cards in the Chilling Reign TCG set. As stated, it's still early since the set released so this list could change, but we'll update it on a regular basis.
