Pokémon Fan Shows Off Beautiful Giant Painted Charizard Card

February 1, 2022

One Pokémon fan painted a giant rendition of the iconic Charizard card, complete with a sparkling holographic sheen.

It’s hard to think of the Pokémon Trading Card Game without thinking of a particular card – the holographic Charizard. With the striking depiction of one of the franchise’s most well-known Pokémon, the Charizard card has become a real symbol of the lasting power of the trading card game.

Of course, iconic cards can be extremely difficult to get, and the holographic Charizard is one of the game’s most coveted. It’s a card from one of the earliest runs of the trading card game, and can sometimes run up to $150,000 depending on the version.

Though, one Pokémon fan managed to snag her own holographic Charizard in a unique way – by painting a giant version herself.

u/MEGINIGANN’S GLITTERING GIANT CHARIZARD CARD

In a post on the r/Pokémon subreddit, u/Meginigann showed off her version of Pokémon’s Charizard card. Her particular rendition depicts the holographic Shadowless Charizard, which originally released in 1999. These “Shadowless” cards are much rarer than their standard counterparts and are known for the distinct lack of shadows around the card’s borders.

Of course, u/Meginigann’s version has that same shadowless look. The bright red background and gorgeous-looking Charizard truly pop from the canvas. She’s also detailed all of the Pokémon’s stats and attacks on the card. Coupled with eye-catching versions of the Energy symbols, her painting looks stunning.

Though not immediately apparent, u/Meginigann also used a glittering varnish over the piece. This gives her painting that sparkling holographic effect that makes the original card so beautiful. It’s clear that the artist took several long days to finish this piece, and the results really do show her care for the painting. Overall, it’s a beautiful and accurate rendition of the iconic card!

Following her giant Charizard painting, u/Meginigann says she might tackle Venusaur or Blastoise next. Whatever she decides, it’s sure to be as much of a hit as this one!

The Pokémon Trading Card Game can also be played online, but if you’re more of a major title kind of person, Pokémon: Legends Arceus is now out on Switch!
