Last night, Niantic shared a few more details around the upcoming Pokemon GO Kanto Tour event. The event takes place on February 20 and sees players choose either the Red or Green version, based off of the original games. Once chosen, players will have access to a specific range of Pokemon from the Kanto Region. This event will also host a range of Special Research tasks and quests. But what are the Pokemon GO Kanto Tour Research Tasks - let's take a look.

Pokemon GO Kanto Tour Special Research

The first task will be to help Professor Willow in Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto’s Special Research story. There are few details on specifics here, but it will offer players the opportunity to learn more about the Kanto Region and its Pokemon. It will challenge players to practice their Trainer skills and will lead to some clues based on a "mysterious Pokemon."

It's at the end of this Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto’s Special Research story where players will encounter Shiny Ditto.

Masterwork Research

On completion of the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto’s Special Research story, players will unlock the Masterwork Research. This sets them down the path of capturing Shiny Mew, however, it won't be easy.

While again, Niantic doesn't share too many details, what they do say is players will need their platinum Kanto medal, and that's just for the first step. Following that, players will have to spin 151 unique Pokestops, walk 151km and catch 30 Pokemon of each type. Prepare to grind for that coveted Shiny Mew!

Collection Challenges

During the event, players will have the opportunity to complete no less than 10 collection challenges. Niantic says half of these are based on the version of the game that the player initially selects, while the other half will be inspired by locations from the Red and Green versions of the game.

The first half of the collection challenges are as follows:

  • Red (Trade) or Red (Incense)
  • Green (Trade) or Green (Incense)
  • Raid
  • Research
  • Evolve

And then the second half are based around:

  • Pallet Town
  • Pewter City
  • Cerulean City
  • Fuchsia City
  • Pokémon League

Don't forget trainers, this is a ticketed event, so make sure you purchase yours before it kicks off on February 20.
