Pokemon GO became one of last summer's biggest sensations and, while the player-base and hype seemed to have died down a bit since then, the title is still expanding its outreach in its partnership with Starbucks with the addition of thousands of new PokeStop locations for US players.

In an update on its website, developer Niantic Labs announced that over 5,000 Starbucks locations in the United States will now be available as in-game PokeStops and Gym, allowing players to gain experience, battle enemies, collect items, and more.

The partnership between Pokemon GO and Starbucks started late last year in having the company's retail locations available as PokeStops and Gyms, with the new locations bringing the total number of participating Starbucks locations in Pokemon GO to over 12,000 total locations across the United States. Along with the ability to battle and collect items, Starbucks is also offering a special Pokemon GO Frappuccino at participating locations.

Pokemon GO debuted on mobile in July 2016, and quickly became a phenomenon at launch with a peak of over 21 million players and over 500 million downloads worldwide, breaking numerous mobile records and becoming one of 2016's breakout mobile games. While the game's player base has substantially dropped in the months since its release, the title has still maintained a committed group of players alongside regular content updates, such as last month's introduction of second generation Pokemon and more.

Pokemon GO is available on iOS and Android in select countries and regions.
