This is a pretty big get for Netflix. The movie will see a theatrical release in Japan and Korea, but getting a worldwide premiere of a new Pokemon movie is a big deal. Granted, the fact that Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution is something of a reimagining maybe reduces the fanbases' hype to some degree. That said, you have to assume this film will do gangbusters for Netflix viewership next month.

Personally, I don't love the animation in this trailer. The Pokemon look great, but there's something just a bit off with the humans. It's not bad, as much as it's a little off-putting. That said, as long as the actual Pokemon look good, that's really all that matters. It will, at the very least, be worth watching to see what changes they make to the original film.

Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution releases on February 27, which is also Pokemon Day worldwide. In Japan and Korea, the film premieres in theaters, but everyone else can watch it on Netflix. Hopefully, this is a success for both the streaming platform and Nintendo, so we can see more anime releases come to the service in the future.
