Japanese company DeNA revealed today a new joint project with The Pokemon Company. Together, they will release a new Pokemon mobile game by the end of the fiscal year, as in March 2020. DeNA technically announced the project during their financial reports in March 2019, but it was only made public today. Further information like what kind of Pokemon game will it be, and in which countries will it launch, will be revealed later.

DeNA, pronounced DNA, has been working with Nintendo on the mobile scene since 2015. Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, are three mobile games born from this collaboration.

DeNA also owns the "Mobage" mobile gaming platform, which is extremely popular, housing many mobile games in Japan. Similar to people using the brand name "Kleenex" to designate paper tissues, nowadays everyone uses the term "mobage" to designate any mobile game, regardless if they're actually on Mobage or not.

As of now, we don't have enough information to know whether this could be an app similar to Niantic's Pokemon Go or something completely different. Only time will tell. Personally speaking, I never play mobage so I can't say I'm particularly looking forward to it, but DeNA might surprise us in some way. If it's a typical gacha game at least we'll have plenty of new illustrations of cool Pokemon characters like Erika to look forward to.
