It’s hardly a surprise when a new Pokémon movie is announced to be in the works, but Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! seems to be a little different from the bunch. In a recent announcement, The Pokémon Company International has revealed that its upcoming movie based on the origins of Ash and Pikachu’s friendship will be making a limited release to theaters as a result of an agreement with Fathom Events.

In Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, we get to watch the origin story of how Ash and Pikachu established and formed their friendship on their search for the legendary bird Pokémon Ho-Oh. Along the way, they will also encounter new acquaintances in trainers Verity and Sorrel, and they will learn more about a new, mythical Pokémon called Marshadow.

According to Vice President of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, the movie’s release is about establishing the franchise for a new generation who may not have had the opportunity to see the humble beginnings between Pokémon’s pivotal protagonists.

“As an origin story, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! is the perfect way for a new generation of Pokémon fans to experience the beginning of Ash and Pikachu’s friendship, and it offers longtime fans an exciting new look into the start of their epic adventures.”

Select international markets will have the opportunity to see Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! in theaters on November 5 and November 6. Currently, screen times and special offers have not yet been disclosed, but further information will be available shortly.
