The Pokémon official Website is teasing at something with the appearance of a mysterious new page featuring little more than a hand-drawn image of a treasure chest, but that's about all it's saying. The game's official Twitter account announced on Saturday the arrival of the Website with a caption that simply reads "ooo," although whether that bit of onomatopoeia is supposed to be spooky or just mimic fans' expected astonishment once the secret is revealed is yet to be seen.RELATED: Pokémon With The Scariest Pokédex EntriesVisiting the page, you'll notice the chest, slightly opened, sitting in a spotlight amidst a field of fog, with nothing but an inky black background behind it. There is no text whatsoever on the Website, save for what appears to be a numerical code, which changes with each update, in the upper-left-hand corner of the screen, and buttons labeled "1," "2," and "3" centered at the bottom. When pressed, the buttons tilt the chest from front-facing, to pointing left about 45 degrees and a slightly higher camera angle, to rear-facing. It's also interesting to note that only the second image features a zoom function on the right-hand side of the page.

Some fans replying to the social media post have questioned whether the treasure chest is actually a new Pokémon based on a mimic, a shapeshifting creature from mythology — well known to any fans of the classical fantasy RPG genre — that often takes the form of treasure to lure unsuspecting adventurers in before trying to consume them. This seems as though it would be an odd choice, however, as Pokémon has traditionally hidden its loot inside of Pokéballs, not chests, and it's already been tricking its players with the Pokéball-like Voltorb all the way back to its earliest games, Pokémon Red and Blue. Given the treasure theme, there's also the chance it has something to do with the coin-based Pokémon recently uncovered by data miners.

Others have suggested that the chest isn't related to the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet at all, and that it's going to be a reveal for the next Pokémon Go Community Day, which is scheduled for 2:00-5:00 p.m. local time on November 12. That event is set to center around Gen-2 teddy bear Pokémon Teddiursa, along with the special features and bonuses that usually make up the Community Day events.

If the big revel is a new Pokémon to be introduced in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which are scheduled for release on the Switch on November 18, this would be far from the first time that Nintendo has taken a roundabout way to introduce one of its new little monsters. Just last month, the ghostly dog Greavard was revealed through a found-footage-type trailer reminiscent of The Blair Witch Project, while electric frog Belibolt made its debut via a guessing game in a fake influencer stream hosted by new gym leader Iono, much to the chagrin of many fans. A month prior to that, the totally-nothing-to-do-with-Diglett Wiglett first appeared as part of a staged, multilingual ecological society online conference call.
