While they may seem unimportant at first, Gimmighoul Coins are necessary for evolving an actual Gimmighoul into Gholdengo, an essential step to completing the Pokedex. This guide will walk you through how and where to find them throughout the game.

Roaming Gimmighoul

Regardless of what area of the map you are in, there are countless Gimmighoul Coins available for you to snag. You just need to know where to look. The most common form you'll encounter is the Roaming Form - those not inside a chest. Typically, they are hiding near small structures like boxes and barrels scattered throughout the open areas of the game. You can also find them near significant landmarks like ancient ruins or harder-to-reach landmarks. Most often, if you see something that looks unique in the area you are exploring, there is likely a Ghimmighoul or two there. When you see one of these places, be sure to thoroughly check around as they are pretty small and easy to miss.

When you get near them, they’ll make a little sound, and upon seeing them, they’ll have a little exclamation point above their head, similar to when a wild Pokemon sees you. Unlike wild Pokemon, they are stationary, so you’ll have to walk up to them and click the “A” button to interact. Upon doing so, you’ll acquire typically 1-5 coins, with a slight chance you’ll get more. If you are extremely lucky, you could encounter a very generous Gimmighoul, netting 200+ coins.

Gimmighoul Battles

You can also acquire a larger number of coins from battling Chest Form Gimmighouls. These Gimmighouls are different as they reside in what appears to be a treasure chest. They can also be captured, unlike the roaming versions in the wild.

To find them, you’ll need to do a lot of exploring. They can be found tucked away in ruins or atop tall watchtowers. One of the easiest ones you can find right away is on top of the watchtower just west of Mesagoza. Upon catching or defeating a Gimmighoul in battle, you’ll be awarded a range of coins, typically an average of 30-50 coins. There is also a slight chance to get 100, 200, or even 777 coins if you are really lucky. This is significantly more than the roaming versions you’ll find, though the Chest Form Gimmighouls are less common and harder to find.
