PokeFever has swept the globe with the releases of titles like Pokemon GO and the series’ 20th anniversary this year, while a whole generation of pocket monsters in the upcoming Pokemon Sun & Moon already has fans excited and is breaking sales records.
According to a report from Famitsu (via Kotaku), the first launch shipment of Pokemon Sun & Moon from Nintendo for launch day is estimated at over 10 million copies, making for the largest launch release of any 3DS title in Nintendo’s history.
By comparison, the 10M+ figure for the launch shipment of Pokemon Sun & Moon exceeds the initial shipment for the last generation of titles, Pokemon X & Y, by 1.5x during their launch back in 2013. Pokemon X & Y currently stand as the top-selling titles of all-time on the 3DS at over 15.5 million copies sold in total since their release.
No official pre-sales numbers or figures have been released by Nintendo just yet, but judging by these initial figures it’s pretty clear that Pokemon Sun & Moon are bound to be big successes for the company this holiday season.
Pokemon Sun & Moon will release for 3DS on November 18th, 2016.
