Empoleon will soon be joining the arcade version of Pokkén Tournament in Japan, according to the game's official website, following a tease from the company's official Twitter account earlier in the week.

Empoleon is a water/steel-type and the fully evolved form of Piplup, the water starter from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. It has fairly high special attack and special defense in the handheld Pokémon titles. No footage of the creature's move set was made immediately available.

At the moment, the new character is set to be included only in the Japanese arcade version of game on December 15th. There's currently no word when it and others, including Croagunk, Scizor, and Darkrai, will make their way to the Wii U.

Publisher Bandai Namco has not announced any plans for DLC for the Wii U version of Pokken Tournament and given the fact that Nintendo's new console, the Nintendo Switch, is launching this upcoming March, there's no telling whether or not any DLC is forthcoming. Unfortunately, Pokken Tournament was also dropped from Pokémon's annual video game competition circuit for the 2017 season.

Pokkén Tournament was released stateside in July of last year for Wii U. The premise involves two fighters battling each other, utilizing Pokémon in fighting style combat. The game is nominated for “Best Fighting Game” at The Game Awards 2016, set to premiere live tomorrow, December 1st.
