Jay Pinkerton, the writer for Portal2 and Team Fortress 2, has returned to Valve but does this really mean a Portal 3 or a Left 4 Dead 3 is underway?

Portal 2 was a massive game when it was released on April 19, 2011, with gamers everywhere jumping in to experience the first-person puzzle-platformer which featured the protagonist Chell. Jay Pinkerton was the fourth Valve writer to leave the studio in two years, following the departure of Erik Wolpaw and Chet Faliszek in 2017, and Half-Life 1 and 2 writer Marc Laidlaw in January 2016.

Nonetheless, as spotted by an eagle-eyed user named u/OWLverlord over on Reddit, Pinkerton is now listed on Valve’s staff page, alongside a short bio, suggesting he has returned to the company for good. Besides co-penning the script for Portal 2, Pinkerton has also worked on Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. He also did non-game work for Valve that included the Team Fortess 2 comics.

Is he back to continue the franchises he worked on previously? Or will he be working on something new? Nothing is certain as of yet, but it will be interesting to keep an eye on Valve in the time to come.
