One of the more surprising unveilings from PlayStation's State of Play presentation today, Predator: Hunting Grounds was revealed. Yes, it is that Predator from the really good Arnold Schwarzenegger (or really bad Shane Black) movie.

Predator: Hunting Grounds will be developed by IllFonic, the studio that helped bring 2017's Friday the 13th: The Game to life. There aren't a lot of details about the game as it is still early in development, but according to a post on the PlayStation Blog, it is an asymmetrical multiplayer experience. A group of players will each take a role as a member of a fireteam using weapons like shotguns, SMGs, and sniper rifles. Another player will assume the role of the Predator, who will use much of its iconic weaponry like its Plasmacaster and "advanced vision mode."

IllFonic, according to the studio's CEO Charles Brungardt in the PlayStaion Blog post, was created to make games based on movies. "We first assembled 12 years ago to create games based off of movies we love and Predator seemed like the perfect fit," explains Brungardt. "One afternoon during E3, Jared (Gerritzen), Jordan (Mathewson), and I shared our idea that got the entire team amped up. You can tell we're a team of passionate movie and video game fans."

To make this project possible, IllFonic partnered with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Fox so the devs could create an "authentic" shooter. "Our team's passion for Predator helped us launch the partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Fox," says Brungardt. "Not only do these powerhouses believe in our vision, which has made this a dream project, they understand what we want to create."

This isn't the only game based on a movie franchise to be revealed this week. It was just announced that Bithell Games and Good Shepard Entertainment will be bringing John Wick Hex to PC. A release window has yet to be provided, but it will be on the Epic Games Store.

Predator: Hunting Grounds will launch for the PS4 sometime in 2020.
