Today, developer Arkane Studios and publisher Bethesda announced that its sci-fi thriller Prey is set to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 5, 2017. In addition to the release date announcement, the pair also released a new gameplay trailer, as well as revealed the game's preorder bonuses.
The gameplay trailer -- which is exactly two minutes long -- ratchets up the tension, and reveals more about the game's central plot. Specifically, it shows the Typhon aliens have escaped containment on the Talos I, and are slaughtering the ship's crew members, gaining free reign of the massive space station in the process.
The trailer also reveals a new detail about the game's protagonist, Morgan Yu, who largely is still is shrouded in mystery. The new detail revealed comes via a quick glimpse at the his office door, and reveals that Morgan is the VP, Director of Research for TranStar Corporation aboard Talos I.
Also shown off is the previously detailed Neuromods, which are used to gain alien powers. As you can see in the trailer, these powers are installed by injecting needles into your eye socket. Many different Typhons are also shown (you can read about them all here) throughout the trailer.
Lastly, the new gameplay trailer shows a variety of weapons, including: the S4 Tactical Pump Shotgun, the GLOO Cannon (which can also be used to build new traversal paths and cover up gaseous jets of flame), the Typhon Lure, the Q-Beam, the Disruptor Stun Gun, a Recycler Charge and, a simple wrench, which is best for smashing alines in the head.
As mentioned above, the game's preorder bonus -- the Cosmonaut Shotgun Pack -- has also been revealed. The pack includes a few new tools that are handy for when dealing with the different Typhon aboard the Talos I. Specifically, it comes with three Neuromods (which are used to acquire new abilities), two medkits, and a fabrication plan to create shotgun ammo, which is generally scarce. You'll also receive the plans for a Yu family heirloom: the Margrave Shotgun.
The following description is provided for the shotgun:
Designed especially for Catherine Yu’s participation in the Centennial European Shooting Championship, the Throne Margrave is a masterpiece of firearm craftsmanship. Mahogany stock, a proprietary metal-alloy barrel and 24-karat gold inlay combined with superior electronic gun control systems deliver the ultimate shooting experience. Mrs. Yu worked closely with Throne ergonomic experts to make this gun an extension of the shooter’s body – fast to point and easy to discharge.
Prey will cost $59.99 USD when it launches. Below, you can check out the new gameplay trailer, as well as a few new screenshots.
