For many Blizzard fans, today is a big day for celebration as Blizzard Entertainment has released their long-awaited team-based shooter Overwatch on consoles and PC, with the micro-transaction structure for the game having officially been revealed.

With today's launch of Overwatch, new details have been revealed regarding micro-transactions within the game as an option for players that want to obtain more cosmetic items right away, and offering an increased amount of the game's "Loot Boxes."

Loot Boxes are earned in-game typically by raising your level, which when opened offer new cosmetic items for characters such as skins, voice lines, sprays, and more. With its official release, Overwatch will offer micro-transactions by allowing players to purchase Loot Boxes, which can be purchased in bundles between $2 to $40. The full list of prices/options for purchasing Loot Boxes is below:

  • 2 Loot Boxes - $2 / £1.69 / €2
  • 5 Loot Boxes - $5 / £4 / €5
  • 11 Loot Boxes - $10 / £8 / €10
  • 24 Loot Boxes - $20 / £16 / €20
  • 50 Loot Boxes - $40 / £33 / €40

The items obtained from Loot Boxes range in rarity from common, rare, epic, and legendary, with descriptions of the micro-transactions explaining that "every Loot Box contains at least one rare quality or better item," and that if players obtain a duplicate item "already in your collection, you will instead receive Credits."

Overwatch is available now for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
