Square Enix and Luminous Productions announced Project Athia for PS5 and PC on today’s PS5 reveal stream. It’s an Action game featuring a female protagonist who can control or summon elements and use them to fight.
Takeshi Aramaki, head of Luminous Productions, described over on PlayStation Blog Project Athia as a thrilling adventure taking place in a vast and detailed world. Moreover, he claimed that what we’ve seen today in only a small peak. That the final game will be action packed, at times twisted, tempestuous, and forbidding.
Project Athia is a tentative title. You can catch the reveal trailer and first screenshots below.
Project Athia is stated to be “designed for PlayStation 5” which seems to indicate it could be launching to other platforms such as Xbox Series X at some point. The end of the trailer also specifies that it’s a temporary console exclusive, and will also be coming to PC.
Personally speaking, Project Athia looks particularly appealing and I can’t wait to learn more about it. As a weeb I’m also all for games with female protagonists , so looking forward to that aspect too. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this and bring you more news and details as soon as we learn more.
Luminous Productions mentioned to be working on a AAA project, now revealed as Project Athia, back in December 2019. The developers back then mentioned how they’re recruiting and it’ll still take a while for the game to come out. No release date estimate was shown on the trailer either.
Square Enix as a whole, being a huge company with multiple divisions, is also working on a another AAA project with Devil May Cry 5‘s Ryota Suzuki, Final Fantasy 7 Remake‘s sequel(s), Infinity Strash Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, yet another Dragon Quest game which is possibly Dragon Quest XII (Yuji Horii’s latest comments), a new Dragon Quest Monsters game, more Kingdom Hearts, and probably more projects we haven’t heard of.
