The new Suicide Squad trailer introduces us to Project Starfish — a new mission for the ragtag army.

After a long wait, we finally got to see The Suicide Squad trailer but not in the way we expected. That's because the trailer arrived in the form of YouTube advertisements and circulated by those who managed to get hold of it.

Nevertheless, we did get to see a glimpse of the characters in the squad as well as the name of their next mission and a new villain.

The Leaked Trailer

This new trailer for The Suicide Squad begins with the introduction of Idris Elba's character 'Bloodsport' who has been imprisoned for putting Superman in the ICU by using a Kryptonite bullet.

Then we see Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, scouting members for a new squad, who'd be tasked with a mission called 'Project Starfish.'

We also get to see the rest of the squad who are as crazy as one would expect them to be in a James Gunn movie. That includes our favorite Harley Quinn, an extra violent shark, and a child-killing Weasel among others.

What Is Project Starfish? Who Is Starro?

As discussed above, we see new members of the squad assembling to destroy Project Starfish — which is just the code name for DC's villain Starro.

Starro is the Kaiju-sized monster villain in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie who appeared first in DC Comics, way back in 1960.

Starro (starfish arm)

Starro looks like a giant starfish which is why the project is named Starfish. However, it is an intelligent alien lifeform that previously visited the Earth and empowered three starfish. Later, these creatures starting wreaking havoc and were encountered by different superheroes in the comics.

Besides the enormous size, this alien villain also has psychic powers, and the ability to spawn millions of spores. These millions of mini spores can attach themselves to a large population at once and bring them under Starro's mind control.

Starro Spores

All in all, Starro is one powerful opponent and it remains to be seen if Amanda Waller's band of rag tags can defeat it in the movie.

The Suicide Squad is set to be released both in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6th, so for now all we can do is wait!
