PS Vita Update 3.10 Adds DualShock 4 Support for PS Vita TV, Keyboards and More Unannounced Features

PS Vita Update 3.10 Adds DualShock 4 Support for PS Vita TV, Keyboards and More Unannounced Features

Today Sony Computer Entertainment released the software update 3.10 for the PS Vita. However, there’s one feature that was left out from the official announcement and didn’t even appear on our western Vita units during the update. Support for the DualShock 4 controller has been added to the PS Vita TV, that previously supported only the DualShock 3.

The addition of the new controller was a quite anticipated move between PS Vita TV users, as it could open the door to a better support of many PS Vita titles. Regrettably the DualShock 4 still won’t work with the normal portable PS Vita. I bet you were hoping for a moment. I was too.

The PS Vita TV is also getting PlayStation Mobile support with this update.

Luckily there are a few quite useful and unannounced features that do involve our portable units. First of all Bluetooth keyboard support (that was previously available only for the PS Vita TV) has been extended to all PS Vitas.

In addition to that a “freeform” mode has been added to the panoramic camera application. In the Music app you can now search by keyword between the tracks in the PC to which you’re connected. The Video app can now sort files by size and the clock can be set to detect daylight savings automatically.

As a final gem, we can finally set 30 minutes as an option to enter sleep mode within the power saving settings, in addition to the previously supported 1, 3, 5 and 10 minutes options. Thank goodness.

Below you can see the other features added with this patch (and that were included in the rather lacking official announcement). Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long until the PS Vita TV is finally announced for the west. I know I want one.

  • You can now display up to 500 applications on the home screen.
  • A Calendar application has been added for PS Vita, allowing you to set up gaming events with your friends. Sync your Google calendar to have all your events with you on your PS Vita. You can also share your favorite events by using the Messages and Email applications.
  • A new “Manage Content on Memory Card” option has been added to the Content Manager application. You can now view the data on your memory card, making it easier than ever to manage content on your PS Vita. You can now view memory usage by content type, and delete content and applications.
  • You can now send and receive voice messages using the Messages application on PS Vita. Exchange voice messages with your friends and players on PS4 and PS Vita.
