PS Vita TV and PS Vita Explode in Japan’s Media Create Hardware Charts, Sell 88,000 Units

It’s Wednesday, and as every Wednesday Media Create released its hardware sales charts, giving us a bird’s eye view on what happened last week in the Japanese video game market.

Here’s the chart between November the 11th and November the 17th:

  1. 3DS LL – 47,852
  2. Vita  – 46,350
  3. Vita TV – 42,172
  4. 3DS – 22,250
  5. Wii U – 15,906
  6. PS3 – 12,019
  7. PSP – 4,353
  8. Wii – 518
  9. Xbox 360 – 404

While the 3DS continues to sell strongly, the real focal point of this week’s party is the PS Vita TV, that debuts with a very solid 42,172 units moved. That’s a good start for Sony’s new microconsole, and hopefully bringer of a bright future for the Vita family.

The portable PS Vita sold even better, pushing ahead with 46,350 units and bringing the total PS Vita weekly sales to over 88,000 (beating the 3DS for the first time in ages) thanks to the effect of God Eater 2, that was released on the same day as the Vita TV and debuted with great numbers.

We’ll have to see if the momentum will last, but today Sony definitely has a good reason to celebrate, if a million of PS4 units sold in 24 hours weren’t enough.
