It looks like Sony has officially announced the PS4 Communities feature is being removed. If you still make good use of your PS4, you might be disappointed to hear the news of the discontinuation of the popular social feature. We've got everything you need to know about the removal of Communities, including the date of the feature's removal from the console.

Users of the PS4 and Communities have begun receiving emails notifying them of the feature being removed in the next update, and players aren't happy about it. It comes as no surprise that Sony has begun shutting down certain aspects of the PS4, after a hugely successful launch of their new PS5 in November of 2020.

What Are PS4 Communities?

The social feature on PlayStation 4, known as 'Communities', was first introduced to the console way back in 2015, and has been popular among the community.

Communities is a place for gamers to create forums and groups to discuss similar interests. Within a created community, you can post messages, join parties and play games together.

When Will Communities Be Removed?

The official email received by users states that the Communities feature will be removed in April 2021. Sony has thanked fans for using the feature and claims that even though it is being removed, players will still be able to stay connected and enjoy messaging features and more on your PS4 console and PlayStation App.

Will There Be A New Communities Feature?

Sony hasn't officially announced if a replacement for Communities will be arriving, but it's likely that with all of the social features available on PlayStation 5 this is an attempt to migrate players to the newest generation of console.

The PlayStation 5 offers a lot of the same features offered in the PS4 Communities, such as screen sharing with friends, and a news section in the control centre that keeps users up to date on the relevant games they own.
