PS4 Dominates This Week’s Media Create Hardware Chart, Almost Everything Else Sinks

As every Wednesday the Japanese research and publishing firm Media Create released its hardware chart, giving us a glimpse on how much each console has sold last week in the country of the raising sun.

While still fruit of estimates, the Media Create charts are considered the most precise portrait of Japan’s gaming market, and today’s release is even more relevant than usual, as it includes the first sales data for the newly released PS4. You can check out the ranking below:

  1. PS4 – 309,154
  2. 3DS LL – 22,253
  3. Vita – 16,857
  4. PS3 – 9,983
  5. 3DS – 9,898
  6. Wii U – 8,407
  7. PSP – 3,171
  8. Vita TV – 1,383
  9. Xbox 360 – 241

As you can see, the PS4’s sale numbers are definitely positive, especially considering the fact that the console only had two days of sales portrayed, since the chart is relative to the period between February 17th and February 23rd, and the console was released on Saturday, the 22nd.

Almost everything else on the chart saw lowered sales this week, besides the old glorious PSP, and the Vita TV, that gets a very small boost.

Of course while we can clearly say “so far so good,” what really will matter is the console’s staying power, and we’ll have to monitor the charts in the following weeks and months to see if the numbers will remain high. In the meanwhile you can find the related software chart for the same week here.
