It's not surprising really, but the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has rated upcoming PS4 exclusive Bloodborne as suitable only for mature audiences.

From what we've seen in previous gameplay trailers and clips, it certainly looks a little on the dark side, but we've not seen the worst of it yet.

The ESRB description details the blood effects, gore and even a partial view of a beheading that players will have to wince at during the game.

This is an action role-playing game in which players assume the role of a hunter on a quest through an ancient gothic city. Players use cleavers, axes, and pistols to kill monsters and human-like creatures. Battles are accompanied by realistic gunfire, impact sounds, and large blood-splatter effects. Some sequences depict instances of blood and gore: a ghost holding its own severed head; a creature ripping its limbs to attack characters; a partial view of a beheading.

It may not be for everyone, but for those of you who enjoy horror games with a splash, nay, a bucket of blood and some dismemberment to boot, it looks like you'll be satisfied with From Software's attention to gory detail.

Bloodborne tears it up on PS4 this March 24th in the US, March 25th in Europe, March 26th in Japan and March 27 in the UK.
