With all the hubbub about the inclusion (or lack of thereof) of female characters in video games, looks like we won't have to worry about that in the upcoming PS4 exclusive Bloodborne, as mentioned by Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview on Dengeki Online:

You can also select a female character as the heroine, and there's facial customization. Personally, I think not only with RPGs, but even with Tactical RPGs, character customization is one of the most fun aspects.

Miyazaki-san also explained that facial customization will be similar to what we saw in Demon's Souls. Some additional elements are being considered, but he isn't ready to talk about those yet.

So there you have it, straight from the lion's mouth: if you want to play a fearsome dark lady in Bloodborne, you'll be able to. And considering that customization in Demon's Souls was pretty detailed, you'll probably be able to make her look very close to whatever you like.
