The Earth Defense Force series has made a resurgence in the west over the past couple of months. Yuke's and D3 Publisher brought Earth Defense Force 5 for PS4 west in December 2018, and today the pair have released the more western focused Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain exclusively for PS4 as well. To accompany this announcement, a launch trailer for the game was released and the creator of the series put out a statement that puts the release of Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain in perspective.

As you can see, the launch trailer mainly highlights the intense action and graphical improvements following the switch to Unreal Engine 4 with this title. Overall, Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain expands the gear and technology at players' disposal with an in-depth customization system. The game also features four classes and introduces a new faction called the Kindred Rebellion.

The release of Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain is significant for D3 Publisher, so Series Creator and Producer at D3 Publisher Nobuyuki Okajima reflected on its release. "On behalf of D3 Publisher and creators, I would like to thank EDF fans around the world for their continued support. With Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain, we wanted to create an EDF experience that can be enjoyed by both newcomers and veterans alike – and hope everyone enjoys the next chapter in the fight to save our mother Earth!” Okajima-san said.

This more accessible and "western" style seems to be reflected in the general visual design, the Mercenary multiplayer mode, and the fact that Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain is being released simultaneously worldwide, whereas previous titles were usually released in Japan first before coming westward.
