PS4 Sells a Million Units In 24 Hours in North America

on November 17, 2013 11:06 AM

Yesterday I made a very  conservative estimate of 500,000 PS4 units sold in North America so far in my latest article. Looks like I was way too conservative, as Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that it has sold a million units of the consoles in the first 24 hours.

And if you’re wondering, this doesn’t mean just “shipped” (not that it makes much of a difference to Sony). SCE Worldwide president confirmed on Twitter that the units are “sold through,” meaning that a million PS4s found a loving home.

Sony Computer Entertainment President Andrew House Commented: “PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal.

Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.

Yesterday I mentioned that we needed some perspective on the reports about faulty consoles delivered. Now we have it.
