Today Sony Interactive Entertainment made PS4 system software update 5.53-01 available for download on the PlayStation Network.

The update is smaller than usual, weighing just over sixty megabytes, and is numbered in a rather unusual way, with a “01” added to the previous “5.53” numbering, the patch notes are rather compact as well, hinting to unspecified improvements to the system performance.

You should probably keep in mind that this normally means that the performance of the operating system itself has been improved, not that of the games, so don’t expect better frame rates or anything of that sort

At the moment of this writing the update isn’t yet available on the relevant Sony websites, and and you’ll need to use the option in the settings of your PS4 or PS4 Pro to launch the download of the update and start the installation. Later today you should be able to  download it from here if you’re in North America and from here if you’re in Europe.

If you’re interested about bigger update, you can read about the latest large one, 5.50.
