PS4 System Software Update 6.0 Released; Keeps Improving System Performance

Sony Interactive Entertainment just released a brand new system software update for PS4. While it's numbered 6.0, it doesn't have a cool Daimiyo name.

Today Sony Interactive Entertainment made the system software update 6.0 for the PS4 available for download on the PlayStation Network.

The update weighs just north of 447 megabytes, and the patch notes are what you would have expected from decimal updates.

“This system software update improves system performance.”

Peculiarly, this is a full numbered update with no mention of actual new features which is pretty odd… even if it’s actually even. Yes. I know. This was a terrible, terrible pun. Don’t judge me.

You should keep in mind that this usually means that the performance of the operating system itself has been improved, not the performance of games, so don’t expect higher frame rates or anything of that sort.

At the moment of this writing, the update isn’t yet available on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s websites. That being said, you can use the option in the settings of your PS4 or PS4 Pro to start the download of the update and begin the installation. Later today you should be able to download the update from here if you’re in North America, and here if you’re in Europe.

If you’re interested in bigger updates, you can read about the latest relevant system software patch, which was numbered 5.50.
