PS4 Users Around the World “Won’t Need to Apply Beforehand” For Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn PS4 Beta

on January 1, 2014 1:21 PM

Today Square Enix sent a newsletter to those holding an account for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and it included an interesting piece of info for those owning a PS4:

But enough about the past-let’s talk about what’s in store for 2014. And what a fitting year for the fourteenth installment of FINAL FANTASY! The PlayStation 4 will be releasing here in Japan on February 22, a date which will also mark the beginning of beta testing for the PlayStation 4 version of FFXIV: ARR. Preparations are well underway, and we want to make sure that PlayStation 4 users around the world can get right into the action with no need to apply beforehand. Boasting the new Share feature and Remote Play with the PlayStation Vita, the planned April release of the PlayStation 4 version should be a momentous occasion indeed!

The wording of the announcement is definitely interesting, as it seems to indicate that the PS4 beta of Final Fantasy XIV will be open to every PS4 user worldwide. Another possibility is that it’ll be open to all FFXIV subscribers with a PS4, even if that seems less likely.

We’ve reached out to Square Enix for a clarification, just to be sure, and we’ll let you know as soon as we get any relevant information.

Update: Square Enix has since clarified the statement. You can find full details here.
