Following yesterday’s announcement of Atelier Firis: Alchemist of the Mysterious Journey, today’s issue of Weekly Famitsu had a nice spread of the game, including the first screenshots and information, and a slew of artwork.
We meet the game’s two protagonists, Firis herself and her overprotective older sister Larne. Firis is an archemist, and Larne is a huntress.
As the title suggest, travel and exploration are the main themes, including areas that are both bigger and more varied than in previous games of the series.
This time around alchemy will not be done in a laboratory, but will actually happen on the road via campfires. It’ll still use a puzzle interface like in previous games. As the fact that this is the second game of the Mysterious trilogy suggests, the world is the same as that of Atelier Sophie: Alchemist of the Mysterious Book, but we’re not in the same region.
The game is currently 50% complete, and will allow the player to actually change the environment and to choose different way to overcome obstacles. In the screenshots below you can see a broken bridge. You can either ask a local artisan to fix it, in which case it will be rendered as fixed, or you can try to find another way, discovering a cave that allows you to bypass the river.
Atelier Firis will launch for PS4 and PS Vita in Japan this fall.
