Now that some outlets have their hands on PS5, we are getting some details about the console that Sony hasn't discussed yet. Reportedly, PS5's storage is not expandable neither with external HDDs nor SSDs.

According to a recent post by VG247, they have attempted to move some PS5 games into an external hard-disc drive, but seemingly the console didn't have such an option. That said, you can still move your PS4 games into external storage on PS5.

Sony recently revealed that PS5 won't support external SSD storages at launch, but the feature might be added to the console after launch. However, they have never talked about ordinary HDD storage. Also, it remains a mystery whether an external SSD storage could be as fast as PS5's internal storage.

Xbox Series X, the direct rival of PS5 in the market, supports both SSD and HDD storage for expanding the free space on the console, though if you run a game through an HDD, you wouldn't be able to use some unique features of Series X like Quick Resume. For this, Microsoft suggests players save the data of their games on an external HDD, and whenever they attempted to play it, move it into the internal SSD of the console.

It's yet to be seen how Sony will address this problem on PS5, but even if the console starts supporting external SSD storage, it might not be ideal for everyone as the price tag for SSDs are pretty high right now. Xbox Series X's Seagate external storages, which bring a performance the same as the console's internal SSD, has been priced at $220 that doesn't seem affordable for everyone.

PS5 will be available on November 12th. According to the reviews, the console provides over 660 GB of usable space, which is 80% of the total storage.
