PS5 and Xbox Series X Release Period May Have Leaked in Fortnite Announcement
Could the release week for the consoles be hinted at in Epic Games' new announcement?
We’ve had months of watching PlayStation and Xbox having a staring competition in regards to details on the upcoming PS5 and Xbox Series X. Both are reluctant were reluctant to reveal details on their hardware until the other made the first move, and now both are dancing around one another with the unknown release date and price range. This, of course, leads consumers with no idea when to expect the upcoming consoles which are both currently slated to launch Holiday 2020, although Xbox has confirmed a November release.
One Reddit user has noticed an interesting tidbit of information in the blog post for Epic Games’ upcoming Fortnite bundle that will bring the Joker to the game as an in-game skin. Posted to the PS5 subreddit, user ecto_BRUH shares a snippet of the blog post which details that the Joker would arrive to the game on November 17. Specifically, it reads, “Batman’s archnemesis, The Joker, arrives in Fortnite via The Last Laugh Bundle releasing on November 17.”
It also details the release of the retail version. “The retail version is available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. It will also arrive in time for the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X next-generation consoles.”
The last section of that sentence seems to be what has sparked people’s theories that the PS5 and Xbox Series X would arrive sometime within that week, or just before this launch. One user notes that PlayStation “historically picks Fridays”. Focusing specifically on base consoles, the original PS3 launched in the US on a Friday, as did the PS4. In addition, Sony’s first-party titles have launched on Fridays, such as Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part 2, and God of War.
Xbox however doesn’t seem to have a consistent day, instead, it focuses on the month and juggles Fridays and Tuesdays. The Xbox 360 launched on November 22 which was a Tuesday. The Xbox One launched on a Friday, and the other variations of the One saw the Xbox One X launching on a Tuesday and the Xbox One S on a Friday.
So it certainly seems likely that Epic Games may have pointed us toward the release week of at least one of the consoles. The bundle will be launching on a Tuesday, which means we could see the consoles launching that week. Obviously, this is all just speculation, and you should use the overused phrase, “Take it with a pinch of salt”. However, the theory itself is interesting and raises eyebrows. What are your thoughts on this?
Myself, personally, I think it’s likely to be that week as I’d imagine Epic Games would want to release the bundle in the same week to ensure people pick up the bundle along with their shiny new console.
