MCV reports that according to “trade sources” Sony’s PSP2 will be announced in Tokyo January 27th.

Separate site VG247 also confirms an announcement on the same day from their own source.

Rumors have been swirling about the PSP2 for months now. The team working on the new Mortal Kombat game announced they had a dev kit shortly after E3, it will supposedly have graphics comparable to the PS3 and it may even have touch controls.

Those of you that listen to the ShockCast know I’m an avid handheld gamer and can’t wait for the PSP2 to be released and with all this 3DS news coming out, it just makes sense that Sony would want to kick that thing out the door and onto the market.

Let’s just pray it does better in the states than it’s predecessor.
