Double Fine’s Psychonauts launched just over 16 years ago to a very positive reception amongst gamers. Many years on and the development time, along with game director Tim Schafer, are back once more for Psychonauts 2 now with a release date, just not for PS5.

A few weeks ago, Psychonauts 2 got a brand new trailer that showed off returning characters and stunning textures throughout that is set to, hopefully, make a big dent in the series. But what about the release date for Psychonauts 2 and the platforms it will release on?

Fans have had their eyes glued to this year’s E2 2021 in the hopes for a release date so during Xbox’s Showcase, they haven’t left disappointed. It was announced that Psychonauts 2 finally has a release date this year coupled with a new trailer. Now we have a confirmation on that!

Will Psychonauts 2 release on PS4 or PS5?

The developers have announced that Psychonauts 2 will be releasing on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Windows 10, and Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch.

This has got many fans curious about whether the game will be getting a PlayStation release or not. Well for PlayStation users, there is both good and bad news. The bad news is that Psychonauts 2 will not be available on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 at launch.

The good news is, it's only a timed exclusive, and we will be getting a PlayStation 4 release at a later date. However, the release date for PlayStation 4 hasn't been announced yet. There is no word about a PS5 release, but PS5 owners will be able to play via backward compatibility.

Psychonauts 2 New Trailer and Release Date Revealed at E3 2021

The new trailer for Psychonauts 2 continues the funk factor of the game with better graphics. Razputin makes his return as the titular character on whom the fate of the world hangs.

And of course, the new trailer of Psychonauts 2 has its share of gags and non-serious-yet-serious adventures.

Psychonauts 2 will be releasing on August 25, 2021. Psychonauts 2 will also be available on the Xbox Game Pass on Day 1 as Double Fine had announced last year.
