Psyonix Thought About Expanding Player Count of Rocket League, “Sweet Spot” is 3v3

On the recent Major Nelson Radio podcast, Vice President of Psyonix Studios Jeremy Dunham talked about the possibility of expanding the current player count for Rocket League matches.

We experimented with larger player counts but it’s too crazy.┬áMaybe one day we’ll revisit it if we ever decide to go with bigger stadiums. But for now, more than 4v4 we think takes a little bit away from the enjoyment of the game; it gets a little too crazy.

Currently Jeremy believes the “sweet spot” for the game is the 3v3 mode, though there are a variation of modes from 1v1, 2v2, to 1v2, 1v3, and 1v4.

For now it seems the player count will stay at eight, though with Rocket Labs, an experimental playlist, maybe we will see a change. Rocket League will release this Friday, February 17, 2016 for Xbox One.
