Puyo Puyo Champions (known as Puyo Puyo Esports in Japan) has finally hit western shores and SEGA has released a launch trailer to celebrate. Check it out below.

Puyo Puyo Champions packs quite a bit into its $9.99 price tag. The biggest feature is competitive multiplayer. Puyo Puyo fans will now be able to challenge their friends locally or take on the toughest competition the world has to offer in online multiplayer.

SEGA has also added in an 8-player tournament mode. It looks like this will only be available online; however, it will make it much easier for any competitive scene that emerges to run events. Plus, it makes it easy for players to throw impromptu tournaments at their next big party.

In one of the more interesting features for someone like me who is bad at Puyo Puyo, the game has a training mode. This lets you replay your last games to see where you made mistakes. It even provides you with annotations and training tips to show you how to improve.

Puyo Puyo Champions is all about giving players options. There are 24 playable characters to try out and two different rulesets. Depending on your sensibilities, you can either play Puyo Puyo 2 or Puyo Puyo Fever. The game even lets you switch between English and Japan audio. Puyo Puyo Champions is truly the Burger King of competitive tile-matching.

Puyo Puyo Champions is out now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Be sure to get out there and start matching.
