Today, Bethesda Softworks announced that its upcoming fast-paced multiplayer shooter Quake Champions will soon be leaving its closed beta phase and enter into early access beginning next week on August 22. Alongside this, the game will be receiving a variety of new content including some new maps and a recognizable new character.

Those who want to play Quake Champions upon entering early access beginning next Tuesday will be able to purchase the Champions Pack, which will unlock all current and future content planned for the game. The Champions Pack will retail for $29.99 and is $10 cheaper than Quake Champions' final retail price $39.99. Those who buy this pack next week will be able receive the following:

  • All 11 current Champions, including Ranger, Visor, Scalebearer, Nyx, Anarki, Clutch, Sorlag, Galena, Slash, Wolfenstein’s BJ Blazkowicz, and the new DOOM Slayer

  • All future Champions, including at least six additional Champions expected to release before the end of 2018, and any that follow

  • An exclusive Early Access skin for Ranger, available only during the Early Access period for Champions Pack players

  • Three Reliquaries (loot chests containing three in-game items for profile, Champion and weapon customization, including skins, shaders, nameplates and more)

Perhaps the most noticeable of these inclusions for those buying the Champions Pack is the inclusion of the DOOM Slayer, the main character from last year's release of DOOM. The DOOM Slayer will be able to tear opponents apart with his bare hands and also has a very nifty double-jump at his disposal. Alongside BJ Blazkowicz, DOOM Slayer serves as another character included in Quake Champions from the family of Bethesda Softworks properties.

Lastly, Quake Champions will have a variety of other new features that will be going live starting next week which you can find as follows:

  • Two New Maps: Church of Azathoth and Tempest Shrine

  • Rune Challenges: Players will be reward for completing new Rune Challenges found in Backpacks

  • Lore System: Players will find Lore Items hidden throughout Arenas in vases. By collecting all 10 Lore Items for a specific Champion, they will unlock that Champion’s high-end Lore Skin.

  • Improved New Player Onboarding: New features to help get fresh fraggers up to speed include a movement tutorial, shooting gallery and the ability to choose a skill level

  • New Customization Options: New options include new Champion skin sets and weapon shaders

  • In-Game Voice Chat

Of course, if you don't want to purchase the Champions Pack to get in on the early access for Quake Champions, the game will eventually go free-to-play when it officially releases. If you're a Quake junkie though and you can't wait that long, $29.99 seems like a modest fee to get all current and future content for the game.
