After the recent removal of Quantum Break from the Xbox Game Pass service, a Microsoft spokesperson has told Xbox Dynasty that the company had to remove the game from the service due to licensing issues, but it doesn't mean it will remain off Game Pass forever.

As reported by Xbox Dynasty (translated by Google), Microsoft is still negotiating with other companies to renew the licenses and bring the game back to the Xbox Game Pass service, but apparently, the Redmondian publisher has been unable to reach an agreement so far. As such, there is no exact timeframe for the return of the Quantum Break to the service.

Developed by Remedy Entertainment, Quantum Break was released as an Xbox console exclusive back in 2016, but it was never a first-party title, which is one of the reasons why Xbox is facing problems with keeping the game on the Game Pass service forever. Along with the game, Quantum Break also features a live-action TV series combined with the game itself, which could also add up to the licensing issues.

Microsoft is committed to keeping all its first-party titles on Xbox/PC Game Pass since the first day of release. Although Quantum Break is not technically a part of this commitment, it has always been a flagship game from the Xbox One category, which is probably why Microsoft is trying to do its best to bring the game back to Game Pass.

The developer behind Quantum Break is currently busy working on Alan Wake 2. Unlike the first entry, the sequel will be available on PlayStation consoles as well. Remedy launched a remastered version of Alan Wake back in 2021, which eventually broke the Xbox exclusivity of the title after a long time.

Despite the fact that Quantum Break didn't receive favorable reviews after launch, fans were satisfied with the experience. That being said, we never heard anything official about a sequel to Quantum Break, as Remedy Entertainment moved on to create a new IP, Control, set in the same universe as Alan Wake, along with working on a joint project with Smilegate.
