Granzella, developer of City Shrouded in Shadow and Disaster Report 4 Plus: Summer Memories, is trying to revive the R-Type Final series with a sequel. Unlike Disaster Report 4, which was revived in a more conventional sense, Granzella is hoping to raise funds for R-Type Final 2 via a Kickstarter campaign that launched today.

R-Type Final 2 is hoping to raise $416,152 in just one week on Kickstarter, and it is already well on its way towards that goal. On the game's Kickstarter page, the developers explain that this game "will pursue uniqueness of the fighters and coolness of attacks that appeared in R-Type Final. In addition, more customizable elements for fighters will be available.  You will be able to change the coloring, types of weapons, and decals." Granzella has even set up special social media goals on Facebook and Twitter that will unlock special decals for the game if goals are met.

The game will also include a variety of difficulty level for those who think the game is too tough. The Kickstarter page also highlights a variety of ships and levels that will be in R-Type Final 2. Despite the campaign's short length, Granzella has set up stretch goals for getting funding through $2,500,000. Stretch goals highlights include cross region and platform leaderboards at $500,000, and reproducing stages from other R-Type games for every stretch goal met between $900,000 and $2,250,000.

When it comes to risks and challenges, the developers seem confident in the project but point out that they will have to work hard to ensure the game is fun and balanced. They also briefly state that "depending on the platform, the delivery date may vary. Also, it may take some time depending on which country or region it is delivered," so it is possible that R-Type Final 2 won't release on all platforms in all regions at the same time. Hopefully, the game can avoid the backlash other nostalgia inspired KickStarters like Yooka-Laylee and Mighty No. 9 received.

A lot of screenshots and art were released to commemorate the Kickstarter campaign's launch, so you can check those out below. According to the game's Kickstarter page, R-Type Final 2 is targeting a December 2020 release date and will release for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch worldwide.
