Today, Bethesda showcased a new extended story/gameplay trailer for Rage 2 at Bethesda’s E3 2018 Press Conference. Rage 2 is currently under development by Id Software in partnership with Avalanche Studios as a sequel to 2011 FPS/Racer Rage. The game will be arriving on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in Spring of 2019.

From this extended look at the world and gameplay, we get a good look at the world of Rage 2, which includes cars, shotguns, neon, and mutants. The narrator describes the hateful state of the postapocalyptic, post-meteor world of the game from the perspective of Walker, the last Ranger of the wasteland. We also get to check out some pre-alpha footage captured in-engine, including a quest in which Walker sets out to claim a relic that will help him take down The Authority.

Rage was known for its blend of car-play and gun-play, and we get to see a blend of both, including a multitude of vehicles and weapons like the electric boomerang/web/sling featured prominently on some of the game's key art. We see Walker collecting an "eco-pod" on this particular mission, fighting off the colorful, neon Goons and members of The Authority as well. The bleak, colorless wasteland of Rage 2 has been replaced with a world filled to the brim with personality and vibrancy, so color me neon yellow and pink...I mean, color me excited to see what else the game has in store.

The game’s story has been described as:

“in RAGE 2, you’ll dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order. You can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything. The game brings together two studio powerhouses – Avalanche Studios, masters of open world mayhem and id Software, gods of the first-person shooter – to deliver a carnival of carnage. In the year 2185, humanity’s numbers are dwindling. Ruthless and bloodthirsty gangs roam the open roads and the tyrannical Authority seek to rule who remains with an iron fist. You are Walker, the last Ranger of the wasteland. Robbed of your home and left for dead, you’ll tear across an unforgiving wasteland battling bloodthirsty gangs to find the tools and tech needed to take the fight to The Authority and crush their oppressive rule once and for all!”

With a blend of Id Software and Avalanche Studios’ differing game development styles, Rage 2 promises to offer a larger, overarching world complete with what may be a stronger narrative than its predecessor. Expect the high-flying, gun-toting, neon action of Rage 2 to come to PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in Spring 2019.
