After the past week of numerous teases leading to its announcement (and getting outed by a retailer listing by Walmart Canada), Bethesda Softworks has officially pulled back the curtain on the post-apocalyptic title Rage 2.

Bethesda Softworks has released the official announcement trailer for Rage 2 after last week's indications that it would get revealed today, and even leading up to a leak of one of the ads this morning before the reveal. While the announcement seems to have the wind taken from its sails a bit by the earlier leaks, at least Bethesda seemed to have some fun with it, and the officially-revealed trailer shows that we're in for a wild ride from the upcoming sequel.

No specific platforms have been detailed in the trailer yet and neither was a release date for the title. The safe assumption would be that the game would be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, though a Switch version is the true question mark at this time. Likewise, given Bethesda's penchant for revealing and releasing games relatively close to their launch window or date, hopefully we'll see Rage 2 arrive by the end of the year.

The game itself will be a follow-up to the 2011 shooter from id Software that took heavy inspiration from post-apocalyptic fare like the Mad Max series, though at this time it's unclear if id Software or another team (inside or outside of Bethesda Game Studios) is taking on this project. However, based on the teaser trailer (and the previously-released teaser images), it seems like Rage 2 might be taking on a far more lighthearted and comical tone compared to its predecessor.

Rage 2 is currently in development, and you can take a closer look at the title below from the new announcement trailer, while gameplay for the title will arrive tomorrow:
