Rage 2 has just come out this week and already, talk has turned toward the possibilities that the franchise has in the future.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, id Software's studio director Tim Willits was asked about the potential for future games in the Rage franchise and whether or not that's something he expects to happen. Willits quickly responded saying that it's something he really hopes happens.

"I hope so. Yes, is the answer to that question," Willits said in response. "We’ve always loved this franchise because it’s such a fun setting. We can do what we want. We were once talking about riding on giant cockroaches. What other game can you have a conversation where that’s a legitimate conversation you can have?! It’s a crazy, fun, exciting franchise and I hope we can make a third one as soon as possible."

Of course, if a proper third Rage game were to become reality, it'd likely hinge on a few deciding factors. For starters, Rage 2 would probably need to sell pretty well for a third installment to get greenlit. As for how the game has critically been received, the reception has been mixed. Currently, on Metacritic, the game is sitting at around a 70 overall when averaging the scores across all three platforms.

We here at DualShockers ended up giving Rage 2 a 6/10 saying that for every good thing the game did, there was an issue or a bug that simultaneously hurt the product. I've been playing the game myself and while I've been enjoying it, I agree with this sentiment for the most part.

Whether or not we end up seeing Rage 3 down the road remains to be seen, but I'd definitely be open to it if id Software and Avalanche can build off of the base of Rage 2. As for now, Rage 2 is available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
